Workshops for Children: Shadow Puppetry

This shadow puppet workshop is suitable for all ages and abilities.

The workshop introduces a simple colourful technique for creating and animating a shadow puppet and demonstrates the use of an easily-made translucent screen.

Each participant, however young, enjoys the pleasure of creating and performing with their puppet and is encouraged to tell their own just-made-up tale.

The work can also be extended into planning shadow shows, creating giant storyboards, adding music and percussion, script-writing and performance.

Safe behind the shadow screen, each puppeteer discovers a new confidence in self-expression and story-making.

Nell has taught shadow puppetry to teachers, parents and children, at primary schools, libraries, fetes and festivals.
